Our story
1947
The Origins of the Group
The origins of IVM date back to 1947, with the start of the first industrial activities in the wood coatings sector in Italy. At that time, the coatings market was still in its early stages of development, and demand was rapidly growing thanks to post-war reconstruction and the recovery of the furniture and design industry.
1970
Foundation of IVM
Adriano Teso and Massimo Milesi officially founded IVM with the goal of revolutionizing the chemical industry, focusing on technological innovation and production quality. From the very beginning, the company specialized in wood coatings, a sector that in the 1970s was undergoing significant development with the introduction of new, more durable and high-performing formulations.
1980
1990
International Expansion
IVM strengthens its presence in Europe through significant international expansion:
- France – Establishment of Milesi Vernis for the Francophone market.
- Spain – Launch of Industrias Químicas IVM to serve Iberia and South America.
- Greece – Creation of Milesi Hellas, a reference point in Southeastern Europe.
- Acquisition of Ilva Polimeri – Specialized in coatings and polyurethane elastomers.
- Acquisition of Croma Lacke – Historic wood coatings company in Germany and Northern Europe.
These operations consolidate IVM’s leadership, integrating expertise, technologies, and know-how.
1989
Federica Teso Joins IVM
Federica Teso joins IVM, bringing a strategic vision focused on growth and internationalization. In 2002, she becomes Vice President and later sole shareholder, leading the Group into a new phase of development and innovation.
2001
The Largest Wood Coatings Plant in the World
One of the most advanced production facilities in the world for wood coatings was built in the province of Pavia, covering an area of 15 hectares. This facility marks a turning point for the company, enabling it to:

2007
Establishment of IVM Chemicals in Poland
With the founding of IVM Chemicals Poland, the Group strengthens its presence in Eastern Europe, responding to the growing demand for high-quality coatings in the region.

Foundation of IVM Chemicals Inc. in Chicago
Entry into the North American market marks another key milestone for IVM. With the establishment of IVM Chemicals Inc. in the United States, the Group brings its expertise and technology to the US, expanding distribution and technical support to a rapidly growing sector.
